The Alliance is a unique and independent group of more than 35 peak national bodies within aged care working through a consensus model. The Alliance’s membership collaborates within and across four key aged care constituencies.

The Story Behind
the Alliance
The Alliance has always been more than just a convenor—it’s a collective force representing the full spectrum of aged care, grounded in evidence and shaped by lived and professional experience.
Formed in April 2000, the Alliance was established with a bold commitment: to create a united policy agenda that would improve outcomes for older Australians. At its inaugural meeting, representatives identified four foundational priorities that continue to shape the Alliance today—consumer rights, quality of care, workforce planning, and sustainable funding.
Over the years, the Alliance has evolved. From a coalition of voices to a trusted and respected presence across the aged care landscape, it has remained committed to consensus, grounded in lived experience, and focused on long-term impact for older people.
Today, our brand reflects this evolution. It’s not a reinvention—but a clarification. A clearer, stronger way of expressing what the Alliance has always stood for: unity, credibility, and constructive leadership that shapes policy built to last.
